Green Open Access
Author self-archives accepted manuscript in a repository.
• No APC cost
• May have embargo (6–12 months)
• Must follow publisher’s policy
• Not formatted publisher PDF
• Yes – if embargo ≤ 6 months for STEM and metadata is deposited on publication
• Yes – if immediate deposit with open license or allowable embargo
• Yes – CURIS repository available for deposit
Diamond / Platinum Open Access
OA with no APC; funded by institutions or consortia.
• Immediate public access
• No APC • Fully CC licensed
• Often run by societies or public bodies
• Yes – fully compliant
• Yes – meets all Plan S criteria
• Yes – encouraged as equitable OA model
Hybrid Open Access
Subscription journal offers OA per article if APC is paid.
• Immediate OA for that article
• APC often higher than gold
• Journal remains subscription-based
• Yes – only if under a transformative agreement
• Limited – only via transformative agreements until full OA transition
• Conditional – allowed if covered by UCPH transformative deal
Bronze Open Access
Free-to-read on publisher’s site without clear license.
• No formal OA license
• Access may be withdrawn
• Often promotional or temporary
• No – lacks license and guarantees
• No – does not meet openness criteria
• No – not considered compliant or sustainable
